Adam Duce, the Deputy Mayor of Godalming!

The youngest in the history of Godalming Council!

One of our very own has recently been elected as the youngest ever Deputy Mayor in the history of Godalming Council! Adam Duce is such an important member of our College, a fabulous English Teacher, Director of Transition and Progression as well as our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Officer… it seems like this man never sleeps!

Adam has been working with Godalming Council for 3 years and has achieved so much in this short amount of time. He was responsible for setting up the Godalming Parkrun in Broadwater Park and the brand new youth centre at Broadwater Park Community Centre, complete with a team of trained youth workers. Both are proving to be extremely popular, with up to 60 kids attending drop-in sessions at the youth centre after school and the Parkrun attracting the local residents every Saturday at 9am – if you’re local then it would be great to see you there!

The different councils meet every month and under a new initiative put forward by Shirley Faraday, current mayor, and facilitated by Adam, Deputy Mayor, some of our 九色视频 students will be attending the Full Council meetings to offer a moment of reflection. This will remind the council members to consider their duties and why they went forward for these positions in the first place. A fabulous idea which aims to refocus the council as well as introduce the younger generation into spaces normally preserved for council members, hopefully inspiring the next generation of decision-makers!
Here is what Adam has to say about his new role:

“The reason I ran to be elected as a Town Councillor at 27 was to ensure that a younger voice was represented at local government: only 3% of councillors are 30 and under (Local Government Association, 2019). Not only this but I wanted to encourage younger people, including students (18+), into a role where the average age is 59 and the vast majority are retired with different priorities. To be the youngest Deputy Mayor of the Council provides me with a bigger voice to get that message across and facilitate more engagement with young people.”
