As we age, our skin becomes lax, and the lips are no exception. In today’s society, full lips are associated with a youthful and more attractive appearance. It’s no wonder that lip lift surgery is most popular in middle-aged women.
Facelift surgery alone will not change the appearance of the lips. It has little to no effect on the skin around the lips. Patients will usually try lip injections and fillers before undergoing surgery. However, if you are unsatisfied with the results or temporary nature of injections and fillers, lip lift surgery may be right for you.

WHAT IS LIP LIFT SURGERY?

Lip Lift Surgery is a cosmetic procedure performed under general or local anesthesia to modify the appearance of the lips. Lip Lift Surgery is performed by Dr. ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ at Park Avenue Plastic Surgery. Typically, an incision is made in the crease at the bottom of the nose and skin is removed or repositioned to lift the upper lip, creating a more pouty and plump appearance. No muscles or nerves are cut in the procedure, so there is no risk of loss of sensation. The surgery, as a standalone procedure, usually takes 40 minutes to one hour to complete.

RECOVERY EXPECTATIONS

Following the procedure, there will be pain and swelling for the first few days. Every person is different, so the degree of pain and swelling will vary with depending on the patient. Most patients are back to their normal routine within seven to 10 days. It will take approximately two to three weeks for the incision to heal completely. The scar that will remain is very minimal and hidden well in the crease of the nose. During this time follow up appointments are scheduled with Dr. Monasebian at our Upper East Side, NYC Plastic Surgery office.

BENEFITS

  • Fuller lips
  • Lift corners of the mouth
  • Improves shape and length of lips
  • More prominent lip line
  • Improve smile and show off the teeth
  • Reduce fine lines on upper lip
  • Permanent enhancement
  • Improve self-esteem and confidence

Facial implants are specially formed solid materials compatible with human tissues, designed to enhance or augment the physical structure of your face. The precise type and size of facial implants best suited for you requires an evaluation of your goals, the features you wish to correct and Dr. Monasebian’s judgment.

While any area of your face can be augmented with implants, the cheeks, chin and jaw are the most common sites for facial implants. If you are bothered by a small chin, weak jaw or lack of facial contour, plastic surgery with facial implants may benefit you. Jaw surgery may also be indicated but this will be based on your bite and Dr. Monasebian will work with orthodontic specialists for this.

Chin implants

Chin implants can increase the size and projection of a chin that is not in proportion with the forehead and mid-face. A small or recessed chin can also be described as one that seems to disappear into the neck of an individual of normal weight, rather than appearing as a distinct facial feature. Chin surgery involving cutting and repositioning the chin bone may also be performed.

Jaw implants

Jaw implants increase the width of the lower third of your face. Much like the chin, a weak jaw can be thought of as one that is not well defined and distinct from the neck or one that slopes rather than angles from the ear to the chin. In some cases, both the chin and jaw can contribute to facial imbalance.

Cheek implants

Cheek implants increase the projection of the cheekbones. They add volume to areas that may be recessed or flat.

Who is a good candidate for facial implants?

Plastic surgery with facial implants is best performed on people whose head and skull have reached physical maturity, which generally occurs in late adolescence. Dr. Monasebian prefers to place facial implants through incisions inside the mouth so no visible scarring is noticed.

During your consultation with Dr. Monasebian, the procedure will be discussed in its entirety. The procedure is normally done under twilight sleep or general anesthesia and patients go home the same day. All the procedures are performed in our fully accredited office based surgical facility.

Women who underwent breast reduction surgery before age 25 continue to report lasting benefits 10 to 30 years following the procedure, according to a study in the November issue of ®, the official medical journal of the  (ASPS). The study finds that some long-term outcomes after  – including sexual well-being and satisfaction with breasts – are even higher than in women who have never had breast surgery.  According to the 2018 American Society of Plastic Surgeons annual statistics report, there were 43,591 breast reduction procedures last year—a number that’s held steady since the Society began tracking the operation in 2011. Overall, participants demonstrated high satisfaction and well-being,”. Women who underwent breast reduction also had good scores for psychosocial well-being (76 out of 100) and physical well-being (81 out of 100).

Breast reduction has demonstrated benefits in reducing symptoms (such as back and neck pain) and improving psychological well-being (such as poor body image and low self-esteem) in women with overlarge breasts. The new report is one of the longest follow-up studies of young reduction mammaplasty patients.

The results show enduring benefits in a group of women who underwent breast reduction before age 25. Benefits persisted even though the women likely underwent hormonal changes affecting the breast, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause. “Thus, avoiding or delaying reduction mammaplasty in young patients may prevent them from achieving lasting improvements in satisfaction and well-being,” the researchers add. The study also has implications for insurance coverage and other obstacles to undergoing breast reduction surgery, especially in younger women.

Please visit Dr. Monasebian and Park Avenue Plastic Surgery today if you are thinking about this procedure. Medical insurance may help cover the costs of surgery if deemed medically necessary.

However, running or lifting should be avoided for six weeks after the procedure. Our patients typically return to work in approximately two weeks. The bruising will subside in a couple of weeks, and the swelling will continue to diminish until approximately three months post-procedure. The scars will continue to heal and will become thinner and lighter in color at around 12-18 months.
